You heard right! We are all skinny because we all have skin. In fact, you could argue that people who are a little larger are more skinny because they have more skin than a little person.
Skin changes as we get older. Some normal and wonderful changes include getting character lines, getting more hair, and more pronounced pores. Skin cancers, however, become more common.
Risk factors for skin cancer:
– pale skin
– sun exposure (especially sunburns as a child)
– use of solarium
– family history of skin cancer
What to look for?
– open, non-healing sores
– reddish patches
– lumps or nodules
– crusted growths
– areas that are itchy, bleeding, tender
– changing lesions
When is the last time you’ve had a skin cancer check? They should be done every 12 months minimum.
